Inspirations come in all shapes, sizes, formats and mediums. For Millie Karkoff, founder of the MiUS Collection, fashion is her inspiration!
I’ve known Millie for over ten years, and since the first moment I met her, I knew she absolutely loved fashion. She was someone I could always look to for current styles and trends. But little did I know that her love for fashion was fueling something far more lasting than any current fashion trend.
You see Millie picked up on a different sort of trend. I was even part of one such conversation earlier this year when I griped that I could not find a pair of American made jeans. But it wasn’t only jeans. I, like many others, couldn’t easily find US manufactured clothes or accessories. Millie heard this message repeatedly and from many different people. So she decided to do something about it and that’s when the MiUS Collection was born!
Made in the US (MiUS) Collection is an on-line boutique whose sole focus is to bring together America’s talent and creativity in fashion to the forefront. Check them out here: MiUS Collection, And from what I’ve seen, they’ve been doing a great job. I’ve purchased a couple of pieces (that’s me in the skull shirt, my new favorite and seriously thee most comfy shirt I own!) and can attest to the quality and craftsmanship. As for prices, they range from surprisingly reasonable to splurge-worthy!
MiUS recently asked me if I’d guest blog on their site. I was more than happy to do so. My blog (posted 11/16/12) titled The Descendant – A Vampire Novel Made in the USA! discusses why it was important for me to support local and US-based businesses during the publication & marketing of my book.
Stayed tuned for future blog posts from Millie about her inspirations. I’ve even asked her to dress characters from The Descendant in MiUS Collection threads; I can’t wait to see what she comes up with! What MiUS pieces do you think Allison or Marlo would wear? Maybe that skull shirt!
