Materials: Cooking supplies (ingredients for cookies); Access to kitchen and baking supplies; Base Cookie Recipe copy for each student
Students learn about the way ingredients work in recipes and we have discussions on how the recipe can be adapted. (I use the Prezi linked here to present this information: Science of Cookie Baking Prezi.)
Students then are given the base recipe (attached) and are asked to use their creativity and knowledge of how ingredients work in recipes to come up with their own unique cookie recipe. Students share their recipes with their classmates and campaign for their recipe.
After a ballot vote we then actually bake the cookie recipe that won the cookie election. Students come up with some amazing ideas and create very creative campaigns.
They campaign using the taste, nutrition, look, texture, smell, etc. of their cookie.
